It Is Your Birthday

Dan turned 26 this month and it just so happens that we have been watching The Office from beginning to end for the first time together. Dan has seen the entire series too many times to count and I have heard many episodes in the background of whatever I am doing around the house, but when I told him I wanted to watch the series and really pay attention to all the details (truly appreciating the awkwardness of Michael Scott) it brought him a ridiculous amount of joy. Little did he know that as we watched, I was taking notes each time I had an idea and was planning his birthday all along!

Growing up in my house, when you came downstairs on the morning of your birthday, the table was decorated and all your presents were out and there was always a sign made by mom. So after I married Dan in 2016, I have continued that tradition. I put all Dan's gifts on the table so when he woke up, it made for a fun start to his day. He couldn't believe I got an "IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY" sign for him...I don't know how many times he has mentioned how fun that would be if someone did that for him on his birthday (hint taken sweetie)!

Dan of course worked out on his birthday (an extra long workout) and I ordered take out from the newest restaurant in town, Mike's Cereal Shack, for when he got home. I also made sure to tell him that "at the end of the day I will have for you a very big surprise" and I feel like as a true Office fan he already knew what it was going to be, haha!

Staying on theme, we went to Chili's for lunch where I presented him with a Dundee Nomination (the awards you can buy online were too expensive for me..very cool though)! I decided it might be too disruptive to karaoke so we stayed low key. I sent him off to play golf in the afternoon so I could have time to set up the surprise party.

Dan knew we were going to have a couple friends over, but didn't know all the details. I added balloons as decor all over the house...grey and two different shades of brown barely blown up. It was hard for me to purposely make the balloons look bad, but I was all in! We ordered pizza from Alfredo's Pizza Cafe (Knollas) and Pizza by Alfredo (QT). Dan got home and I had his outfit laid out. A new Dunder Mifflin shirt, since he grew out of his last one in college. And I had a matching onesie for Ezekiel!

I added one more gift to the table that he got to open when the party was happening. A gift basket because "gift baskets are the ultimate gift a person can receive"! But the rule was, he had to know what episode each gift was from in order to keep it! Gold star for you if you can name each Office moment..Dan knew each one, no hesitations!

The basket consisted of:

-Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

-The Devil Wears Prada DVD

-a mug replica from Kelly's Dancing with the Stars finale party

-a jar of peanut butter (the good stuff)

-cheese balls

-a book of crosswords

-a Serenity by Dan candle

-a disposable camera

I had a YouTube playlist going during the party that was Office themed. I also got a plain white cake and added one green chiclet to the top for us to enjoy for dessert! Everyone left with party with a party favor, their very own Serenity by Dan candle, to take their frustrations away!

And I bet you are all wondering what the big surprise was at the end of the day? Ice cream sandwiches!!

Happy Birthday, Dan! I love celebrating you.
